Our story
From pop-up to
permanent home
Janda started as a pop-up at The Man of Kent in Nunhead, then grew into a tiny tin-can room round the White Horse in Peckham Rye. In 2025 we moved to our permanent home at 191 Rye Lane—a former taco bar, now ours—bringing Malaysian flavours to South London in a fun, celebratory way.

The chef
Head Chef Ady Yacob
Head Chef and owner Ady Yacob trained at Le Cordon Bleu (Grand Diplôme) and brings that rigour to Malaysian cooking. Expect bold flavours, careful technique, and a dining room that feels like a party.

The name
In Malay, 'Janda' means a woman who has chosen a new path—often translated as divorcee, but here we celebrate it as a symbol of freedom and empowerment. Our restaurant is a place where everyone has a seat at the table.

Janda means freedom, celebration, and a place at the table.
The vibe
Fun, celebratory, unpretentious. We're a pet-friendly, halal kitchen on Rye Lane—here for long lunches, late dinners, and the kind of meals you remember.
